History & Vision

Charles and Elva Hutchinson formed Heritage Farm and bred and showed Morgan Horses for many years. Their son, Charles “Charlie” Hutchinson, DVM rode growing up and played intercollegiate polo at Cornell. After finishing school he returned to the area and established his practice, Cardigan Veterinary Clinic.

In the mid-1990s he joined a local club and started playing again, this time outdoor polo. He has since been dedicated to playing, improving his skills and nurturing a string of quality horses. He plays Spring and Fall polo in Aiken, SC and summers in New England. In 2011, the Hutchinsons made a major commitment to polo and started creating a facility dedicated to the sport. The property already boasted a indoor arena, barns, paddocks and pastures. A stick and ball field was completed in 2012, and there is now an on site game field.

Realizing that polo was a difficult sport to foster new interest in, Charlie and his family created a club and school, receiving USPA approval in 2013. Beginner horses were added to the string, and lessons started in the Spring of 2014. An outdoor regulation arena was added and the playing field hosted the first game in August 2014. In addition, there is an off-site practice field. Anyone interested in Polo is encouraged to contact us for more information, whether your interest is in playing or watching. We recommend non-riders take a few preliminary riding lessons at their local riding school (we can help with referrals) and all ages are encouraged, polo is a family sport.

If you already play polo and are interested in getting some organized practice time, please call us.
